Located in the Atlantic Ocean, between Europe and North America, the Azores are on the same parallel as Lisbon, 39°43′ / 36°55′ N.
The nine islands have a combined area of 2,333 km²,which is surrounded by an exclusive economic zone of over 984,300 km2.
The individual islands have areas ranging from 747 km² (São Miguel, the largest) to 17 km² (Corvo, the smallest).
The highest point, which at 2,351 m. is also the highest point in all of Portugal, is to be found at the top of the volcano on Ilha do Pico.
